Shop Local
Secluded, but in no way isolated, the tranquil and wooded valley of Hewenden provides a restful retreat yet there are many wonderful shops, cafes and pubs within a mile radius of the accommodation. The three villages of Cullingworth, Wilsden and Harden form a triangle around the valley offering guests the opportunity to eat out or stay in with excellent take-aways and well stocked mini-markets.
Eating Out
Yorkshire is famed for its wonderful beers and warm, welcoming pubs.
The George public house in Cullingworth has its own micro-brewery and both this, and the Dog and Gun at Oxenhope, have an excellent reputation for great home cooked food and roaring fires.
Take-aways
Take away food is, for many, one of the many delights of self-catering and, here in Hewenden, we are spoilt for choice.
Cullingworth boasts a brilliant fish and chip shop as well as an oriental Thai take away.
Wilsden, on the other side of the valley, has the best in Chinese and Indian cuisine.
Deli Café
Krave Deli and café in Wilsden has become a firm favourite here at Hewenden– Sunday mornings wouldn’t be the same without a bacon and mushroom breakfast sandwich on thick granary bread.
Lunches are often inspired by Italy with frittata, anti-pasta and the famous meatball melt making a regular appearance on their mouth-watering menu.
The lovely people at Krave will also provide a catering service if you are planning a small party during your stay.
Butchers
We are very lucky to have some truly excellent Butchers within a mile radius of Hewenden.
Ellison’s in Cullingworth has been awarded the prestigious Q award for quality—their championship sausages are delicious!
The Butchers in both Harden and Wilsden also come very highly recommended—great for summer BBQ’s.
Mill Shop
Fancy visiting another of this area’s lovely old mills?
Coldspring mill is just over a mile from Hewenden and is now home to a lovely shop selling an incredible range of knitting wool and outdoor clothing.
Garden Centre and Cafe
Woodbank started out as a highly successful plant nursery and has grown into an amazing aladdin’s cave of retail opportunities; homeware, gifts, a florist, pets, house plants, garden ornaments, ice cream parlour and delicious cafe.
Spoons Tea Room
A delightful little cafe occupying a small section of Cullingworth Mill next to the Antique centre.
Serving a delicious range of homemade cakes, sandwiches, salads and hot snacks in a light, bright and elegant setting.
